Common Core Content Activity: MS Figurative Language

MS Figurative Language: This unit replaces Figurative Language Informational and Literature. In these activities, we learn about understanding and using Figurative Language. The unit reflects both literature as well as informational text. The students are introduced to literal and figurative meanings of words and phrases, formal and informal tones, metaphors, similes, and idioms, using context clues to understand how it enhances the sentence. Students read emails and text messages written by two middle school students named Sophia and Alex as well as informational blurbs. Sophia and Alex assist the students throughout the activity to determine what the written text means. Throughout the unit the students practice all activities on real life examples.
